Hyderabad: While the world is collectively fighting the Covid-19 pandemic on several fronts, one of the key battlefronts in this war against the virus is vaccinating populations globally.
In an effort to ensure people collectively come forward to vaccinate themselves, several countries have come up with various ways to incentivise vaccinations and also to remove vaccine hesitancy.
For instance, Moscow citizens get a chance at a lucky draw if they get themselves vaccinated. Everyone above the age of 18, receiving the first dose before July 11 will automatically be entered in a draw in the Russian capital and will have a chance at winning a car worth 1 million Roubles!
Romania has gone a more modest route and is giving a free barbecue sandwich and though this is not an official incentive, the prospect of relishing a grilled meat sandwich led many Bucharest citizens to get themselves vaccinated.
Serbian government announced cash incentives for its citizens to get vaccinated and the country managed to inoculate 23 lakh people in the country.
Several American states have launched various incentives from lotteries to free beer to chances at winning a scholarship at universities to unlimited subway tickets to hunting rifles and shotguns. Washington state went to the extent of allowing retailers to offer a free marijuana joint to those getting vaccinated.
Israel had earlier launched a program called ‘Green Pass’, giving benefits to people who were vaccinated or developed immunity through infection, giving access to gyms, hotels, etc to these people.
