Hyderabad: In the post-Covid world the demand for data scientists and analysts is set to grow. According to experts, not just traditional sectors like information technology (IT) and banking will demand data scientists, but even unconventional industries like retail, healthcare, manufacturing, scientific research, auto and even agriculture will require people who can analyse data efficiently and effectively.

“In the post-Covid world where people are engaging more digitally, data will surely become the need of the hour for every industry and sector. In the past, IT and BFSI were the only two sectors where data was used but now as more and more people get online the more and more data analysis will be required. So, while the two traditional sectors will surely constitute 60 per cent of the need, there is a growing demand for data analysts and scientists in other sectors as well,” said Dr Santanu Paul, co-founder and CEO, TalentSprint.

The deep tech learning platform TalentSprint has partnered with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to launch five executive learning programmes in the next two years. These programmes, according to Paul, will be in the deep tech space and will concentrate on areas of data science and machine learning. While they have already launched a programme in the healthcare space, both the entities have now launched an Advanced Programme in Computational Data Science.

“There is a widening gap between demand and supply of data scientists and as technology progresses, this gap is set to widen even more. In such a scenario, executive learning programmes are needed the most along with traditional academic courses for graduate and under-graduate students,” said Dr Sashikumaar Ganesan, Head of the Department of Computational and Data Sciences (CDS) at IISc.

The 10-month programme will teach current and aspiring data architects and data scientists core skills needed to design, build and deploy solutions for data-driven business decisions. The first cohort of the programme, which will start in January 2021, is open to top 50 professionals from India, APAC and Middle-East.
