Need to reduce crimes against children: Telangana HC judge

Need to reduce crimes against children: Telangana HC judge

Kumram Bheem Asifabad/Mancherial: Telangana High Court judge Justice K Laxman expressed concern on growing violence against children and stressed the need to reduce crimes against them. He along with Collector Rahul Raj formally inaugurated a special court for disposing cases booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, here on Sunday.

Justice Laxman stated that the erstwhile Adilabad district was witnessing an alarming rise in POCSO cases. He said 220 cases were reported in Mancherial, while Adilabad district recorded 165 cases.


Kumram Bheem Asifabad district and Nirmal districts registered 135 and 112 cases, respectively, in the last one year. He opined that online classes necessitated by Covid-19 pandemic resulted in growing violence against the children and urged parents to monitor their children while they were attending virtual classes.

Justice Laxman advised lawyers to strive to reduce cases and also ensure justice to victims from rural areas. He said that various courts would be established in a complex in district headquarters. A model design of the complex was already prepared. He expressed happiness to felicitate Gussadi trainer and Padmashri award-recipient Kanakaraju.

Rahul Raj said that awareness programmes were being conducted to sensitise the public over child marriages. Superintendent of Police Suresh requested the lawyers to ensure accused persons in crimes against women, get punished. Additional Collector Varun Reddy said that tribals were still deprived of quality medical services and education.

District Principal Judge Suneetha, State Bar Council member Phanindra, Asifabad Bar Association president Satheesh Babu, III Additional District Judge Narayana Babu, principal junior civil judge Uma Maheshwari, junior civil judge Shareena, authorities of Child and Women Welfare department and members of Sipur (T), Asifabad, Bellampalli Bar associations were present.

Later, K Laxman inaugurated similar courts in Mancherial and Nirmal districts. He was joined by local Collectors Bharati Hollikeri and Musharraf Ali Faruqui.
