NEET-UG 2026: Telangana shines with eight students in top 138, Sahyu secures AIR 13

Telangana produced eight candidates in the top 138 of NEET-UG 2026, led by State topper Veeriahgari Sahyu, who secured AIR 13. More than 11.21 lakh candidates qualified nationwide, with women accounting for over 58 per cent of successful candidates.

Hyderabad: Telangana students have made their mark in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination (NEET) – UG results declared Thursday, bagging eight ranks, including 13th rank, in the top 138.

Veeriahgari Sahyu of Telangana scored 99.99915 percentile and bagged all India 13th rank. He is also the State topper. Other top all India rankers from Telangana are Bura Sai Sharan (19th rank), Kandagatla Haneesh (21), Andem Sai Charan Reddy (38), Mayuk Jayasimha (42), Kompella Sai Gayathri Tejoarunima (83), Rutumbika Mohanty (91), and Devesh Shreegopal Agrawal (123).


Overall, Aryan Gupta of Punjab who secured 99.9999 percentile topped the NEET UG 2026, while Panshul Bansal of Haryana and Uplakshya Goyal of Rajasthan bagged second and third ranks.

The National Testing Agency, which re-conducted the NEET-UG on June 21, said the top 17 rankers who scored more than 705 marks span eight States, namely Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Telangana,

As many as 138 candidates scored above 690 out of 720 marks. Of total qualifiers, 19 candidates scored above 700, 1,492 candidates got 650 and above, 10,160 candidates secured 600 and above and 90,780 candidates scored 500 and above, it said, adding that close to 20 lakh candidates appeared and 11.21 lakh qualified.

More than 58 per cent of all qualified candidates are women. Women also qualified at a higher rate than men. A total of 56.8 percent of women who appeared qualified, as against 55.1 percent of men, it said.

The majority of the top-performing candidates are between 17 and 19 years of age, the NTA said, adding that Over 93 percent candidates appeared for the first time and 99 percent students are between 17 and 19 years of age.

The result was declared within time through re-engineering of the process, with stages designed to run in parallel rather than in sequence, and with the de-linking of OMR sheet challenge from answer key release, the NTA said.

Counselling for the all-India quota in MBBS/BDS will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), while the State quotas are held by the respective State governments.

Students have been asked to rely only on official websites: neet.nta.nic.in, mcc.nic.in and State counselling portals. They are cautioned against fraudulent calls, messages or websites offering admission, seat blocking or score improvement.
