dHyderabad: The pump house of the Nellikallu Lift Irrigation Scheme, a key component of the Rs 664 crore project, was found submerged following recent rains and flooding. This scheme under implementation, intended to draw water from the Nagarjuna Sagar project to irrigate the Krishna Patti area in Nalgonda district. It has received a major setback due to the incident.
The foundation stone for the Nellikallu Lift Irrigation Scheme was laid by the then Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in February 2021. The works on the project were stalled after the Congress government came to power in December this year.
Floods in the first week of September resulted in the submersion of the Vattem pump house under the Palamuru Ranga Reddy Lift Scheme and the Palair pump house of the Bhakta Ramdas Lift Irrigation Scheme. These incidents highlight the neglect of the administration adding to the vulnerability of critical irrigation infrastructure in the State. (EOM)
