Kathmandu: Two people were killed and six others injured when a jeep plunged off the road in Nepal’s Sudurpashchim province, according to a media report on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 5.30 am on Friday in the Baitadi district, The Rising Nepal newspaper reported. The vehicle was travelling from Dhangadhi to Ganna in Darchula when it veered off course and fell nearly 100 metres down a slope before coming to a stop against a cliff.

According to District Police Office spokesperson Inspector Balram Pandey, the deceased were identified as Santosh Bahadur Rana, 24, who was driving the jeep, and 32-year-old Kiran Bohora.

The six injured included a two-year-old girl as well. A police-led rescue team, which also comprised local residents, reached the spot soon after the incident.

The injured were given first aid at a Primary Health Centre. The cause of the accident is under investigation, the report quoted Inspector Pandey as saying.
