Shimla: A 56-year-old woman, identified as Santosh, was killed allegedly by her Nepalese tenant, Prem (36), in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Sunday, police said on Monday.
Santosh’s son, Devender Kumar, discovered his mother’s body on the floor of their building. After repeatedly knocking on Prem’s door and receiving no response, Devender broke the door open and found Prem lying unconscious, prompting him to call the police.
During the initial investigation, police reported that Prem was drunk at the time of the murder. Superintendent of Police (SP) Solan, Gaurav Singh, stated, “After committing the crime, he consumed some pesticide and was found unconscious at the scene.”
Police took Santosh’s body for a post-mortem examination and transported Prem first to the Civil Hospital in Solan before referring him to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla for further treatment. It was also revealed that Prem had been living in the building for the past year, as informed by Kumar.
A case has been registered under section 103(1) (murder) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway, police said.
