Hyderabad: Five members of a Nepali gang who committed dacoity at a businessman’s house at Saifabad were arrested on Tuesday. The police recovered property worth Rs 8.88 lakh from them.
The arrested persons were Dipesh Shahi Thakur, Anita Shahi alias Anita, Chhatra Bahadur Shahi alias Chotu, Meena and Amar Bahadur Chand, while five gang members were absconding.
Police said the gang had tied up the aged in-laws of one Yagna Agarwal in their house at Hill Colony in Khairatabad on October 16. They then escaped with valuables, City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said.
Special police teams verified private travels, bus-stands and railway stations and finally nabbed them at Shaikpet, he said, adding that Dipesh, claiming to be an agent providing domestic helps, had got Chhatra Bahadur and Meena employed in the house in August.
They left the job after passing on information about the family to the gang, after which Dipesh and others joined work as domestic helps. On the night of October 15, the gang gathered at the house and committed the dacoity, Anjani Kumar said.
