Business influencer Raj Shamani was all of 16 when a personal liability forced him to take on the responsibility of a family-run soap business. With no know-how of how to go about the business, Raj took the proverbial bull by its horns, learnt how to make soaps from YouTube and reached out to homemakers to familiarise them with the product and, in turn, encourage entrepreneurial spirit in selling the soaps in Indore.
His strategy worked and he went on to share his success story as a delegate at the youth representative programme at United Nations and talks at corporate behemoths like Jaguar Land Rover, TCS, Reliance among others.
Today, the 24-year-old shares the knowledge he gained across social media platforms with youngsters seeking to set up their own business and learn how to build a presence in the competitive markets.
Excerpts:
What got you interested in creating content around business?
When I started building a business, I didn’t know anything about market research, building a company, a product, marketing the product and how to make a dent in the market. I learnt it by consuming content on YouTube from other people specially from the United States. I listened to people like Les Brown, Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk. Now, I feel that most of the people creating valuable content on business are from the Western world and their ideologies are not as apt for Indian businesses. I wanted to share whatever I am learning on a daily basis in my business that is making me succeed.
What sets you apart from other content creators?
I talk about things I wish somebody had told me when I was young and trying to build my business. Also, I don’t know anybody else who at this young age has built a legitimate business and trying to bring out everything practical and applicable in the world of business.
Advice for youth in the real world amid a pandemic.
Learn how to communicate with people, sell your ideas, and how to become a good team leader so that you can understand everyone’s concern. If you can communicate with yourself and keep yourself motivated, then, you can communicate your ideas to the world and inspire them to join you. Learn about the social media platforms and their algorithms. They are game-changers.
What projects are you working on in near future?
I am writing a book. I have started investing in a couple of companies to help them grow. I am working to build a company wherein I will help leaders of big corporations and organisations get their wisdom in front of everybody so that they can communicate their ideas in front of the world and help them go viral.
