Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam railway station, of late, has undergone a lot of changes and some new facilities have been provided for the travelling passengers and for those waiting at the station. With the modern facilities, it received accolades such as cleanest railway station, Safaigiri award, best tourist-friendly station in India and many more. Some of the exciting facilities at Visakhapatnam railway station include a health kiosk, introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic by the Waltair Division under Non-fare revenue initiative. Passengers can get health checkups with as many as 30 tests that can be availed at a cost of Rs 100 at health kiosk. A mobile health kiosk — Health on Wheels is also the part of the new initiative which will be available on demand at the platform.
Another attraction is a Robotic Spa. Train journeys for a long time can be very exhausting and passengers feel tired and taking note of it, the Waltair Division provided a Robotic Spa on platform 1 at the railway station. The spa has facilities from a relaxing chair, foot massager and fish pedicure. This allows passengers to relax while they wait for their trains at the station.
Besides, a Pandemic Preventive Gear vending kiosk has been established on platform 8, to enable passengers get PPE kits, disposable linen, hand sanitizers, masks etc before they board trains for their journey. Also an AC relaxing lounge on the lines of airports has been set up at the station, under Non-Fare Revenue, for the first time in Indian Railways. It has a seating capacity for 50 persons with LED TVs for entertainment. The entry fee for the bonafide passengers will be Rs 50 for two hours and passengers will be offered a complimentary water bottle or a cup of tea or coffee.
