Khammam: The State government has been giving importance to development of urban infrastructure in the State, said Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.
As part of that the government has been constructing integrated collectorates and other buildings required for administrative purposes in all the districts. The new building of Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) would soon be brought into use for the convenience of citizens, he said.
Ajay Kumar along with District Collector VP Gautham and Municipal Commissioner Adarsh Surabhi inspected the ongoing construction work of the KMC building here on Friday. The building was being constructed with an expenditure of Rs 20 crore.
Speaking to the media the minister informed that construction work was nearing completion and it would soon be inaugurated by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao. The new KMC building is being built in an extent of 60,000 sq.ft for the convenience of people visiting the office.
Ajay Kumar informed that the KMC building was being equipped with modern facilities on par with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office building to cater to the needs of citizens for the next 50 years.
He inspected the seating facility at council hall, Mayor chamber and suggested the officials to ensure quality in the works. Citizen chart, town planning, Mee-Seva and other citizens services would be offered under one roof.
The Minister later inspected the underconstruction integrated vegetable and meat market at the excise office in the city. He said that since there were many apartments and residential colonies in the area, enough parking space had to be allotted.
Ajay Kumar distributed Kalyan Lakshmi, Shadi Mubarak and CMRF cheques to beneficiaries in 25 municipal divisions in the city on the day. A total of 107 Kalyan Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak cheques worth Rs 1.07 crore and 33 CMRF cheques worth Rs 18.73 lakh were distributed.
Mayor P Neeraja, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar and others were present.
