Kumram Bheem Asifabad: The family members of a new mother staged a dharna demanding action against the management of a private hospital following her death in Kaghaznagar on Friday. They later dispersed after police assured them of justice.
Family members of Rehana Sulthana (32) staged a sit-in in front of the hospital with her body. They alleged that she died due to the negligence of the doctors in delivering a baby in the second gravida. They held Dr Jyothi of the nursing home responsible for the death, and demanded that medical and health department officials seize the hospital.
Sources said that Rehana, a resident of Thandur mandal centre in Mancherial district, was admitted to the hospital when she developed labour pain. She died while she was being shifted to a hospital in Mancherial town. She had bouts of epileptic seizures after delivering the baby girl. She died due to excessive bleeding, the source said.
Munawari Ali lodged a complaint with police. A case was registered against Dr Jyothi under 304 (A) causing death by negligence of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations have been taken up.
