Hyderabad: Ahead of New Year celebrations, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has announced strict regulations to ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents in the city.
The directions were issued during a video conference with senior and field-level officers from the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC), Banjara Hills here on Wednesday.
The Commissioner said that New Year events and parties will be permitted only until 1 am. Any violation of time limits or misuse of sound systems will attract strict legal action. Sale of liquor through backdoor methods after permitted hours has been completely banned, and violators will face severe penalties.
To curb drunk driving, special enforcement teams have been deployed across 120 locations in the city. Drunk-and-drive checks will begin from 7 pm onwards and will continue through the first week of January.
Offenders will face heavy fines, possible imprisonment, cancellation of driving licences and seizure of vehicles.
Citizens, especially youth, were advised to avoid rash driving and triple riding, and to use cabs or designated drivers after consuming alcohol.
The police warned that cab or auto drivers refusing rides or demanding extra charges will be booked under the Motor Vehicles Act. Complaints can be reported via WhatsApp at 94906 16555.
Sajjanar also urged police personnel to spread goodwill by celebrating the New Year with residents of orphanages, old-age homes and hospitals, calling it a meaningful way to welcome the new year.
