Sangareddy: Vasavi Maa Illu, a Sangareddy based Non-governmental organisation (NGO), donated a funeral vehicle (Vaikunta Ratham) to Sangareddy Municipality on Monday. The members of the NGO collected Rs 11 lakh to buy the vehicle. Founder of the NGO Topaji Anantha Kishan said it came to his notice that people were suffering due to a lack of funeral vehicles in the town. As even the poorest of the poor were forced to spend thousands to hire a private vehicle, Anantha Kishan said they decided to donate the vehicle.
They handed over the vehicle to Additional Collector (Local Bodies) Rajaharshi Sha, and Municipal Chairperson Vijayalakshmi at Collectorate on Monday. Municipal Commissioner B Chandrashekar, Sanitary Inspector Sampath Reddy and others were present.
