Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) filed a case against HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath following the tragic suicide of an elderly woman, Buchamma, at Kukatpally two days ago.

The woman died by suicide allegedly amid apprehensions that the houses belonging to her daughters could be demolished.

The NHRC registered the case under number 16063/IN/2024 and initiated an investigation into the incident. The case raised concerns over the actions of the authorities.

The woman had purchased land near the Kukatpally lake and after constructing small houses, gave it to her daughters. The revenue officials allegedly marked houses falling in FTL in the area.

On coming to know about it, the woman slipped into depression and died by suicide. However, HYDRAA officials maintained the houses belonging to Buchamma were not marked as they did not come in FTL area.
