Hyderabad: It was a spectacular evening at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) where the two-day ‘Craft Bazaar-2021’ was organised. The event, conducted by NIFT as part of a Craft Cluster initiative, aims to promote Indian handlooms and handicrafts throughout the country.

Around 40 craftsmen from all parts of India, including Bamboo craft, Dokra, Kutch Work, Kalamkari, Bandarulanka Sarees, Banjara Craft, Ikat, Narayanpet, Etikoppaka toys, Udayagiri Wooden Cutlery, Gollabhama Sarees, Cheriyal Paintings, Pemberti Metal, Koyalgudam Ikat, Warangal Durries, Mangalgiri, Venkatagiri, Leather Puppetry and Pashmina, took part in the expo.

The bazaar is a platform for craftsmen to showcase their diverse range of products and connect with potential buyers directly without middlemen.

In addition to artisan stalls, there is a creative display of student’s explorations done during craft cluster study. Students had also planned various fun-filled activities like junk art, face painting competition, wall art and murals, installations incorporating sustainability and having food stalls providing a festive extravaganza.

The Craft Bazaar was inaugurated by Sandeep Kumar Sultania, IAS, Secretary to Government of Telangana, PR & RD Department, and opened to the public. During the inauguration, the director of NIFT Hyderabad, Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, welcomed the chief guest and addressed the audience. And gratitude was given by Craft Cluster Initiative coordinator Shivanand Sharma. Attendees of the event included joint director Madan Kumar Reddy, Dr Malini, campus academic coordinator Dr Anaji, faculty, students and general public.
