Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime police on Tuesday arrested a Nigerian on charges of matrimonial fraud and cheating a woman from the city to the tune of Rs 10 lakh on a matrimonial site.
The suspect identified as Victor (30), a resident of New Delhi, got registered on a popular matrimonial site as a veterinary doctor from the US and evinced interest in a woman’s profile and started texting her. He said he wanted to relocate to Hyderabad and start his own clinic.
The suspect also said he had applied for an Indian visa and had booked tickets and was to arrive at Mumbai in August. Further, he collected money from the woman on pretext of medical expenses and sending costly gifts for her.
The victim recently received a call from a person claiming to be from the Customs and asked her to pay money to release the gifts sent from abroad. She believed and deposited money.
Later, realising that she was cheated she filed a complaint.
