Hyderabad: Paediatric specialists and staff of Niloufer Hospital provided emergency life saving treatment for over two months to enable a 10-year-old child recover from the symptoms of Gullain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a rare disorder in which body’s immune system attacks its own nerves.
Bhavesh, a resident of Lungar Houz, was brought to Niloufer Hospital by his father Raju in a critical condition. The paediatric specialists immediately provided ventilator support that lasted for nearly a fortnight and later provided two-and-half-months of intensive treatment to save the boy’s life and reduce the symptoms so that he can lead a quality life. The youngster was provided with an intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a treatment made from donated blood that contains healthy antibodies.
Due to his deteriorating health condition, several private hospitals in Hyderabad had advised the family members of the boy to get admitted to Niloufer Hospital. “Private hospitals refused to admit Bhavesh due to his critical condition. Some demanded at least Rs 5 lakh to provide the initial treatment. We admitted Bhavesh in November and after 75-days, he made a miraculous recovery, thanks to the dedication of the hospital staff,” Raju on Thursday said.
