NIMS conducts complex heart surgeries on 19 children during cardiac camp

Nineteen children underwent complex heart surgeries during the fifth Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Camp at NIMS. More than 1,000 children received outpatient services from UK and NIMS specialists, while ECMO services were introduced under Aarogyasri during the camp.

Hyderabad: Nineteen children underwent complex heart surgeries in the fifth Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Camp organised by the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

More than 1,000 children utilised the outpatient services provided by a specialised medical team from the UK, led by paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr Ramana Dhannapuneni and senior cardiologists from NIMS.

Children identified as requiring surgery during OP services will be admitted to NIMS in subsequent phases for treatment. Held in partnership with the ‘Healing Little Hearts Organization,’ the heart surgery camp also introduced ECMO services at NIMS under the Aarogyasri scheme for the first time.

During the course of the camp, UK specialists visited patients directly at their bedsides to offer medical advice and consultations. All medical services provided during the camp were completely free of charge under Aarogyasri. “The camp stands as another crucial milestone in the progress NIMS is making in advanced pediatric cardiac healthcare,” said Dr Rahul Devraj, Director, NIMS.

All the participating medical experts, including Head of Department of CT surgery, Dr M Amaresh Rao, and others, were felicitated.
