Hyderabad: To mark the occasion of World Emergency Medicine Day, a fire mock drill was conducted at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Punjagutta, on Saturday.

The NIMS Medical Superintendent, Dr Nimma Satyanarayana, said that the objective of the drill was to create awareness among hospital staff, doctors, nurses, technical staff, and security personnel on how to respond in the event of a fire and shift patients to safe areas.

The mock fire drill also educated doctors and other hospital caregivers on how to effectively manage emergency situations. Dr Satyanarayana noted that the drill was conducted using ‘dummy patients’ to ensure that no inconvenience was caused to the actual patients.

The mock drill was organised jointly by the NIMS Hospital administration and the Department of Emergency Medicine under the guidance of Hyderabad District Fire Department.

Hyderabad District Fire Department officials, including District Fire Officer T Venkat, Assistant District Fire Officer V Bhanuprasad and Station Fire Officers, provided the training in the mock drill.

The hospital staff, including Head, Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr Sunil, along with staff from various departments in the Trauma Block, nursing officers, technicians, sanitation staff, and security personnel, participated in the mock drill.
