Hyderabad: The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, have launched a joint research initiative to develop Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for healthcare.

The project aims to create innovative AI models tailored for Indian patients to assist in the early diagnosis, risk assessment, and personalised treatment of breast cancer, oral cancer, kidney diseases, heart ailments, and obesity.

Beyond improving diagnostic speed and accuracy, these AI models will be designed to support clinical decision-making and enhance the accessibility of medical services for the general public, Dean of NIMS, Dr P Chandrasekhar said.

A team of scientists from IISc, Bengaluru on Thursday visited NIMS and participated in a series of interactive sessions. The first phase of the project, slated for completion within six months, will focus on clinical data analysis, algorithm design, and development of preliminary models.
