Hyderabad: A complaint was lodged by the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) with Punjagutta police station stating that a few persons were cheating citizens by collecting huge amounts in the guise of giving admission and Covid-19 treatment. In the complaint, the hospital authorities said one Krishna Reddy brought his mother, a Covid-19 patient, for treatment to the hospital, where he met one Prashanth, who claimed he would get them admission and proper treatment. Since his mother’s condition was critical, Reddy believed him and gave Rs 1 lakh via Google Pay and got her admitted.

Prashanth later demanded more money for continuing the treatment and said normal treatment would cost up to Rs 3 lakh with oxygen facility and Rs 7 lakh with ventilator. Reddy grew suspicious and verified the admission register, wherein it was found that only Rs 1,000 was paid.

Following his complaint, a departmental inquiry was ordered, during which it was found that a call was made by a senior hospital staffer to admit Krishna’s mother. It was found that Prashanth was not an employee nor connected to the administration of the institute.

“He is suspected to be having contacts with some employees and cheating patients and their relatives by collecting huge amounts in the name of giving admission and treatment,” Dr Satyanarayana said, requesting the police to investigate the matter and take stringent action against Prashanth and his accomplices.
