Nine lakh women to get Bathukamma sarees in Adilabad

Adilabad: Arrangements have been made for distributing Bathukamma saris to eligible beneficiaries in erstwhile Adilabad district from October 2. As many as 8.95 lakh saris would be given to women aged above 18 and beneficiaries of food security scheme cards, helping them celebrate the floral festival with pride in Nirmal, Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts.
According to information provided by the civil supplies department, 2.10 lakh saris are going to be distributed to in Adilabad district. As many as 20,000 saris were already arrived and they were shipped to stock points. The remaining would be delivered to the district in a day or two and steps were being to ensure smooth distribution of the gifts Meanwhile, 2.21 lakh saris have been allotted to Mancherial district and 2.73 lakh saris would be given to beneficiaries in Nirmal district. As many 1.88 lakh saris were granted to Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. A major proportion of the saris were sent to these districts by Thursday. The remaining saris are likely to be delivered soon.
As per guidelines of the government, local MLAs are requested to join the distribution in their respective Assembly constituencies. The saris would be handed over to the beneficiaries at fair shops in rural and urban parts from this Saturday till the commencement of the floral festival of women. They were door-delivered to the beneficiaries in the wake of Covid-19 in 2020.
The authorities of the civil supplies department and public representatives were advised to follow Covid-19 protocol during the distribution. The saris were produced with a staggering nearly 300 designs that would meet the choices of the women. Saris measuring 6 feet and 9 feet would be given to the beneficiaries. The government earmarked Rs 333 crore for implementing the scheme in 2021.
