Hyderabad: Providing the much-needed boost to the seed production industry in the State, the Telangana International Seed Testing Authority (TISTA) laboratory has been opened at Rajendranagar. Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy inaugurated the laboratory established by the Telangana State Seed and Organic Certification Authority (TSSOCA) here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Niranjan Reddy said the TISTA lab was established with international standards for research and testing of seeds. He asserted that seed quality was essential for an increased yield as well as agricultural development. The seed produced in Hyderabad is being supplied to over 80 countries.

“Telangana has been termed as seed bowl of the world by Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. With increased agricultural operations in the State, Telangana is increasingly producing seeds for a variety of crops. We must supply quality seeds and spread the reputation of Telangana across the world,” he said.

Due to increased cultivation, Telangana has gained second spot in crop yield for 2021-22 in the country. With more than 1.4 crore acres under cultivation, the State has also surpassed Punjab in terms of paddy production and also enjoy top rank in cotton production. The State was attracting global attention due to its achievements which was a result of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision and innovative initiatives, the Minister said.

Secretary for Agriculture M Raghunandan Rao, MLA Prakash Goud and others were also present.
