Hyderabad: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy accused the Congress government of repeatedly compromising on Telangana’s water rights for the personal interests of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He accused the government of testing the patience of the people and warned that any negligence in safeguarding the State’s irrigation interests would trigger a public backlash.
In a statement, Niranjan Reddy said the government was writing a death warrant for Palamuru in the name of irrigation planning, but was working in favour of Andhra Pradesh projects like Banacherla and Nallamala Sagar. He charged that the Congress government was systematically cooperating with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the cost of Telangana’s share of river waters.
He said it was absurd to expect an official who had worked in Andhra Pradesh’s interests for years to now safeguard Telangana’s concerns. He asserted that the people of Palamuru and Telangana would not tolerate any compromise on irrigation rights and warned of serious political consequences if the State’s interests were undermined.
