Nirmal: Kaddam Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) member and seven others were booked on charges of dereliction of duties and assaulting policemen at Lingapur village of Kaddam Mandal on Saturday.

Kaddam Sub-Inspector K Raju said the accused were Musuku Srinivas Reddy, a ZPTC member of TRS party and his seven followers, who were booked for preventing policemen from performing their duties.

A case was registered against the eight under Sections of 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (Causing injuries) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On Thursday night, Ramadevi (55), wife of Rajeshwar Reddy, the brother of the ZPTC member committed suicide by jumping in a well as she was reportedly depressed over mental disability of her sons for quite a long. But, neither her husband nor any other family members inform the police about the incident.

On coming to know about the suicide, police rushed to the village and began a probe into the incident. They questioned the family members of Ramadevi as to why they were not intimated about the incident. They tried to stop the family members from performing final rites. Srinivas Reddy and his supporters, who present were at the spot, picked up an argument with policemen and assaulted a police official and a home guard.
