Hyderabad: Joining the Green India Challenge (GIC) initiative of TRS Rajya Sabha MP, J Santosh Kumar, NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant planted a sapling at his residence in New Delhi on Sunday.

Accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Venkatesh Netha Borlakunta, Amitabh Kant participated in the initiative.

Santosh Kumar hoped the gesture will encourage others to replicate the same across the country. He also gifted a copy of the book ‘Vruksha Vedam’ to Amitabh Kant and explained the contents apart from the Telangana State government’s efforts at afforestation.

Appreciating the efforts of the MP, Kant said: “Every village needs to take up this initiative. If we move forward in the same way, we can surely combat climate change. I would soon nominate three more for this green challenge.”

Later, Santosh Kumar took to Twitter to thank the official for participating in the challenge. “It’s indeed a pleasure to be with you while you plant a sapling as part of Green India Challenge initiative. Happy to present you with the Vruksha Vedam book and glad you liked it too. Thank you so much for your positive words during our brief conversation,” he tweeted.

Launched in 2018, the Green India Challenge has seen participation by many leading politicians, celebrities, bureaucrats, and eminent people from various walks of life.
