Nizam College students protest over hostel accommodation in Hyderabad
Students at Hyderabad’s Nizam College staged a protest demanding hostel accommodation, alleging that rooms had not been allotted more than a month into the academic year. Nearly 1,000 students are reportedly seeking accommodation, while police prevented protesters from entering the Principal’s chamber.
Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Nizam College as a large number of students staged a protest demanding hostel accommodation. Protesters lamented that despite more than one month into commencement of the academic year, the administration failed to allocate hostel rooms to students.
Students who gathered at the Principal’s office raised slogans such as “We want justice” and tried to enter it. However, police who reached the college stopped protesters from entering the Principal’s chamber. According to protesters, nearly 1,000 students sought hostel accommodation, and the college administration is yet to respond to the request.
Hostel accommodation in the Nizam College is a long-standing issue. Last year, a large number of students staged a protest after the college administration allegedly refused hostel accommodation to several eligible candidates.
