Nizamabad: Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu said parents and school authorities should educate children on the consequences of rash and negligent driving and teach them about traffic rules and good driving sense.

Speaking after flagging off a bike rally as part of the national road safety month at district headquarters on Thursday, the Collector said prevention of road accidents was everyone’s responsibility and urged people to follow safety norms to make the State accident-free. Many people were losing their lives due to road accidents due to negligence and irresponsibility, he observed.

Stating that over 1.5 lakh accidents take place in the country every year due to non-compliance with traffic rules, he advised everyone to follow traffic rules and not to drive recklessly for fun and cause immense grief to their parents.

Despite knowing the outrageous circumstances of driving at a high speed, a number of people continue to drive rashly, he said, adding that speedy driving by people, especially the youngsters, should be controlled well in time.

“Speeding without following traffic rules, not wearing helmets and seat belts are the main causes of road accidents. While those who die in accidents lose their lives, they also cause immense loss to their families. My sincere advice to people is to follow traffic rules. Two wheeler drivers should wear helmets as it saves lives,”he said.
