Nizamabad: Commissioner of Police Sindhu Sharma said strict action would be taken against trouble mongers and those creating commotion during the New Year celebrations in the Nizamabad city.

Unveiling the city police’s elaborate plan to ensure that the New Year was ushered in safely and peacefully, she asked revellers not to indulge in unlawful activities. A special drive would be conducted to crack down on drunk drivers on the night of December 31 and it will continue till the next morning, she said.

“Liquor shops within the Commissionerate shall sell liquor only till the time permitted by the State government. We will recommend to the government to cancel the licence of shops selling liquor after the permitted time,”she warned.

Commenting on the drunken driving issue, the commissioner said 20 special teams would be formed to carry out drunken driving tests across Nizamabad city. Stringent action would be initiated against people indulging in triple riding and over speeding on the New Year day, she warned, adding that legal action would be taken against people roaming on roads after 12.30 am on December 31.
