Nizamabad: Doctors at the Nizamabad Government General Hospital (GGH) successfully performed modified radical mastectomy surgery on a 60-year-old woman suffering from breast cancer. The cancer surgery normally costs between Rs 2 and 5 lakh in private hospitals but the GGH doctors performed it for free of cost. The patient, Shashikala, belongs to Mailaram village of Jukkal mandal in Kamareddy district, and had developed lumps in the breast eight months ago. On January 5, she approached the GGH doctors who performed a biopsy and diagnosed it as duct cell carcinoma at stage 2. The GGH doctors team that performed the surgery comprised General Surgery HOD Dr Kurmaraswamy, senior surgeon Dr. Sunil, Anesthesia HOD Dr. Kiran, Anesthetist Dr. Nagapadma and Dr. Balraj, Dr. Venkat, Dr. Harish and Dr. Saraswathi. GGH superintendent Dr Prathimaraj appreciated the team for successfully performing the surgery.
