Nizamabad: The Purre Mamatha murder case, which hit the headlines, has been cracked by the police immediately after Nizamabad Commissioner of Police Karthikeya set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.
On October 3, Mamatha, a married woman, died under suspicious circumstances at Nyavanandi village of Sirikonda mandal. According to her relatives, she was raped and murdered in their agriculture field, but even after a month and a half, police could not trace out the culprits.
The issue gained limelight when Mamatha’s relatives and Nyavanandi villagers staged a protest in front of Sirikonda police station and NH-44, and later met with MLC K Kavitha in Hyderabad seeking her intervention. Subsequently, on the MLC’s intervention, an SIT was appointed.
Sources said that following investigations by the SIT in the past two days, some persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder and are likely to place all details before the media in the next couple of days.
