Nizamabad psychiatrist Dr Vishal Akula honoured with IMA’s Dr Ketan Desai Award for rural services
Dr Vishal Akula, Head of Psychiatry at Government Medical College, Nizamabad, and president of IMA Nizamabad, has been conferred the Dr Ketan Desai ‘Aao Gaon Chalen’ Award by the Indian Medical Association in New Delhi.

Hyderabad: Dr. Vishal Akula, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College, Nizamabad, and president of IMA Nizamabad, was honoured with the prestigious Dr. Ketan Desai ‘Aao Gaon Chalen’ Award (Rural Services) by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in New Delhi.
Dr Akula, who is also the President-elect of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Telangana State, received the award from Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence, during the National Doctors’ Day Award Ceremony in New Delhi, in recognition of his contributions to rural healthcare, mental health services, medical education, community outreach, and drug de-addiction initiatives.
Dr. Vishal Akula thanked the IMA for the honour, specifically citing the encouragement and guidance from Dr. Anilkumar J. Nayak, national president, IMA, Dr. Sarbari Dutta, Honorary Secretary General, IMA, and Dr. P. Kishan, president, IMA Telangana.
