NJIT opened as Newark Technical School in 1885 with 88 students. The school grew into a classic engineering college – Newark College of Engineering – and then, with the addition of a School of Architecture in 1973, into a polytechnic university that now hosts five colleges and one school.
NJIT offers more than 125 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes in six specialised schools namely the Newark College of Engineering, the College of Architecture and Design, the College of Computing Sciences, the College of Science and Liberal Arts, the School of Management, and the Albert Dorman Honours College.
