No alliances: Mayawati announces BSP will contest three state polls independently

BSP chief Mayawati announced that the party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand independently, ruling out alliances. She directed workers to strengthen grassroots organisation, select credible candidates and intensify preparations ahead of the polls

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday announced that the party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand independently, ruling out any electoral alliance with other parties. The decision was announced as Mayawati reviewed the BSP’s organisational position and support base in Punjab during a meeting held here. She directed party workers and office-bearers to step up preparations for the upcoming elections and work towards securing a stronger electoral performance.

During the meeting, the BSP chief placed particular emphasis on strengthening the party’s organisational structure at the grassroots level, especially up to the booth level. She also instructed party functionaries to ensure that candidates selected for the elections are “hardworking and honest” and that there are no shortcomings or lapses in the party’s preparations. Explaining the BSP’s decision to contest the elections independently, Mayawati said: “Electoral alliances cause the party to suffer losses in both seats and vote share. Therefore, the BSP will contest the elections on its own in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.”

She called upon BSP workers to remain united and strengthen their efforts on the ground, while preparing to counter the electoral strategies and tactics adopted by rival political parties. She also instructed party leaders to complete preparations for the upcoming programme to mark the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram on October 9. The BSP chief further stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s financial support for ‘Jan Kalyankari Diwas’, which is scheduled to be observed on January 15, 2027.

She said that programmes such as these are important for taking forward the Ambedkarite ideology as well as strengthening the BSP movement among its supporters and workers. “The party’s goal is to advance policies that provide the poor, unemployed, and marginalised sections with freedom from poverty and unemployment and the opportunity to live a life with self-respect,” Mayawati said. The BSP chief also directed the party’s organisational machinery to remain fully active and election-ready in the run-up to the Assembly polls. She emphasised that workers at every level must remain engaged with the public and strengthen the party’s presence on the ground.
