Visakhapatnam: The reports that bauxite mining was going on in Visakhapatnam agency area are false, according to Vigilance Assistant Director Pratap Reddy.
Talking to media persons here on Monday, he said the government had not issued any new licences for mining. Only laterite mining was being carried on with permissions obtained from court, he clarified.

A special drive was being launched from Tuesday against illegal mining in the Anakapalle area. Already fines to the extent of Rs.250 crore were imposed on those who indulged in illegal mining in three north Andhra districts and criminal cases would be booked against those who resorted to illegal mining, he warned.
