Hyderabad: Soon after it began distributing financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to rain-affected families within 48 hours of rains wreaking havoc in the city, the State government has said there would be no limit on such assistance and that it was ready to extend more help to those whose houses were completely or partially damaged.

Announcing that an action plan would be set in place for disbursal of financial assistance shortly, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao said the process of disbursal of financial assistance would be expedited once the rains recede. More teams would be pressed into service to make sure the money was given to needy families at their doorstep, Rao said while personally handing over the assistance to families in the city on Wednesday.

Continuing his inspection of rain-hit areas in the State capital which he began soon after the deluge last week and the distribution of the assistance which he had launched on Tuesday, Rama Rao said the government would support every affected family during the crisis. Starting his inspection from Lalapet in Secunderabad, Rao visited several colonies and interacted with people who were affected by the rains and subsequent floods.

The financial aid of Rs 10,000 was only an interim relief, Rao said while interacting with families whose huts were damaged due to the heavy rains in Lalapet. Visiting Bodduppal, the Minister also inspected the Shelter Centre there, and spoke with officials about the food and medical facilities provided to the people. He later visited a relief camp at the Zilla Parishad School in Bodduppal where officials informed him that food was provided not only to those staying in the camp, but also to people who could not reach the camp premises.

The Minister also inspected the Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, which was damaged because of huge inflows and instructed officials to complete the repairs at the earliest. He visited Netaji Nagar abutting a water body in Ramanthapur.

Handing over financial assistance to the affected families in Ratnanagar Colony of Nallakunta in Amberpet, Rao also inspected a nearby nala, where he asked officials to initiate steps for the smooth flow of rainwater and to prevent flooding.
