Hyderabad: The Central government was categorical in stating on Tuesday that there was no restriction on cultivation of crops in Telangana for Yasangi 2021, even as the State government had been demanding that the Union government make a clear statement on the quantum and type of paddy it would procure from the State.

Replying to Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy’s question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar said the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare had not imposed any restrictions on crop cultivation for Yasangi season.

While the State BJP leaders had been prodding the farming community to cultivate paddy in Yasangi season, the State government had advised the farmers to go for alternative crops, citing Central government’s decision not to procure parboiled rice from Telangana. This was despite Telangana government clearly explaining to the Centre that due to agro-climatic conditions in the State, only parboiled rice could be cultivated during Yasangi season, as milling raw rice would result in higher quantity of wastage.
