Kothagudem: As many as 17 cadres of CPI (Maoist) party surrendered to the district police and CRPF officials here on Friday.

Speaking to the media Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju informed that two area committee members, four party members and 11 militia members were among the surrendered. They surrendered after being attracted to the welfare measures under ‘Operation Cheyutha’, he said.

In this year as many as 282 Maoists of various ranks surrendered to Kothagudem district police. One divisional committee member, 13 area committee members/PPCMs, 32 party members, 105 militia members, 33 RPC members, Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS)/KMS, 30 CNMs and 21 GRD members were among them, the SP noted.

Rohith Raju said that Maoists were moving on Telangana-Chhattisgarh borders and residents of border villages should not cooperate with them ‘at any cost’. If the villagers notice any Maoist movements they should immediately inform the police.

Recently Mulugu police received such information from the villagers and arrested 20 Maoist cadres besides seizing 12 weapons. None of the Maoists could escape from State police if they entered Telangana territory, the SP noted.

Encounters that took place in 2024 and this year at different places including Karregutta was an example for that. Telangana people have lost trust in outdated ideology of Maoists and the State could never be a shelter zone for Maoists, he asserted.

The surrendered Maoists were being given suitable reward and assistance to live a normal life. All underground cadres should lay down their arms and join mainstream life to live peacefully, the SP added. CRPF official Preetha, Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Singh Kumar and others were present.
