No hike in private medical, dental college fees in Telangana

The Telangana government has decided to retain the existing tuition fee structure for MBBS and BDS courses in private medical and dental colleges for the 2026-29 block period. The move, based on recommendations of the TAFRC, ensures students will not face higher fees, though the committee noted that B-category charges remain steep.

Hyderabad: Students seeking admissions to MBBS and BDS programmes in the private medical and dental colleges in the State will not have to shell out higher fees in the academic year 2026-27 as the existing tuition fee has been retained.

As per the Health department orders, the tuition fee, which was fixed for the block period 2023-26, will be continued for the next three-year block period. The order is applicable to Army College of Dental Sciences in Secunderabad as well.

Presently, a student securing a seat under the A-category (competent authority) has to pay a tuition fee of Rs.60,000 per annum. A seat under the B-category (management quota) costs between Rs 11.50 lakh per annum and Rs 13 lakh per annum. The colleges are allowed to charge up to two times the B-category seat tuition fees for the C-category (NRI quota) seat.

As for dental colleges, tuition fee of Rs 45,000 per annum has been fixed for A-category seats. While a seat under the B-category costs between Rs 4.20 lakh per annum and Rs 5 lakh per annum, the private colleges are authorised to charge up to 1.25 times of the B-category seat under C-category admission.

This tuition fee will be continued for a three-year block period. If new private medicine and dental colleges come up between 2026 and 2029, minimum fee in force will be applicable to them. The State government took this decision based on the recommendations submitted by the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC).

Tuition fee for private professional colleges is revised once every three years and as was due this academic year. After TAFRC invited applications, 27 private medical and 12 dental institutions submitted their proposals for fee revision. However, the committee felt the fee for MBBS and BDS programmes, particularly for B-category seats, is high in the State.

Last year, the private colleges offered more than 5,000 MBBS seats in the State. The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), which recently announced admissions under convener and management quotas, will display the seat matrix on its website https://www.knruhs.telangana.gov.in/ before exercising web-options for counselling.
