Karimnagar: Passengers without face masks are not being allowed into the Karimnagar district headquarters bus stand. A signboard ‘No Mask No Entry’ was put up at the entry point of the bus stand on Thursday.

Thousands of people pass through the bus stand as it is a focal point for north Telangana.

In the wake of spurt in Covid-19 cases under the second wave, Karimnagar region RTC officials are strictly implementing corona norms to check the spread of the virus.

Since there was a more possibility for spreading the virus as scores of people would travel in different routes every day, corporation authorities are firm about covid norms and not allowing passengers into bus stands without face masks.

Besides arranging a sign board and flexies in bus stand premises, two RTC employees have also been deployed to identify the passengers entering into the bus stand without mask and send them back if they were refused to wear a mask.

While an employee is standing at the entry point, another worker makes rounds inside the bus stand to identify the passengers without masks.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Krishnahari, who works in Karimnagar depot-II, said that though a majority of the people were wearing masks, some of them were not covering their mouths and nose completely. Meanwhile, some of the commuters, especially youth and uneducated people were not wearing masks.

Commuters without masks were stopped at the entry point and asked to wear masks before entering inside. If anybody was refused to do so, they have been sent back, Krishnahari said.

A passenger, S Srinivas appreciated Karimnagar RTC authorities’ efforts. Bus stands were danger zones since all types of people would visit them to travel to different places. So, there were more changes to spread the virus.

He wanted corporation officials to take steps to maintain social distancing by passengers while waiting in bus stands for their buses. Srinivas was traveling from Godavarikhani to Hyderabad.

Regional Manager, Karimnagar region, A Sridhar said that they were taking all precautionary measures to check the spread of virus.

Besides arranging a sign board, an announcement has also been made every five minutes through the public address system stating that commuters without masks would not be allowed into the bus stand. Passengers have also been asked to wear face masks and maintain social distance, he said.
