Hyderabad: A man, who allegedly did not have money to perform the last rites of his dead wife, carried her body on a bike with the help of a friend to bury her near a lake at Thorrur in Hayathnagar on Friday. According to the police, D.Srinivas (37), a mason, and his wife D Laxmi (35), a construction worker, both natives of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, had come to Hyderabad in search of a living along with their two children seven months ago and were staying in Hayathnagar.
Laxmi, who earlier assisted Srinivas at construction sites was not keeping well for quite a long time and was under treatment. She had also stopped going to work and stayed back at home with Srinivas and the children taking care of her.
“About 20 days ago, her health condition deteriorated and Srinivas, who was the sole bread winner, also found it difficult to find money for her medicines,” said M.Surender, Inspector, Hayathnagar, adding that Laxmi breathed her last on Thursday night.
Srinivas, who had no money to perform her last rites, decided to bury her body near a lake in the area, for which he sought help from his co-worker Vinod.
The two men wrapped Laxmi’s body in a bedsheet and were carrying the body on a motorcycle towards the Bathula Cheruvu on Friday morning, when suspicious villagers stopped them and called the police. The two were taken into custody and questioned, while the body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The Inspector said the couple’s house too was checked, but nothing seemed suspicious. However, based on circumstances, the Hayathnagar police have booked a case of suspicious death and have taken up investigation. Officials said there were no external injuries on Laxmi’s body. Based on further investigation and the autopsy report, necessary action will be taken, they said.
