No power tariff hikes in Telangana, says Jagadish Reddy
Replying to a question by MIM MLC Aminul Hasan Jafri in the Legislative Council here on Saturday, the Minister said the Telangana Discoms will file the annual Aggregate Revenue requirements
Hyderabad: Energy Minister G. Jagadish Reddy on Saturday said the State government does not have any plans to revise power tariff and appealed to the people not to believe false media reports. Despite the State Discoms suffering revenue loss of about Rs 4,000 crore due to the impact of corona pandemic, the State government has no intention of revising power tariff, the Minister said.
Replying to a question by MIM MLC Aminul Hasan Jafri in the Legislative Council here on Saturday, the Minister said the Telangana Discoms will file the annual Aggregate Revenue requirements to the Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission for the year 2021-22 shortly.
He further informed that total current debts of the Discoms till March 31, 2020 was Rs.2,890 crore. The State government has allocated Rs.10,000 crore to the power sector in the 2020-21 budget, he added.
Ruling out discrepancies in issue of power bills, especially during lockdown period, Jagadish Reddy said there were few technical glitches in the bills issued. “These inflated bills were re-examined and corrected immediately,” he said. Citing an example, he said a consumer in Nalgonda town got a huge bill. Officials, however, took up his complaint rectified the mistake immediately, he said.
“Desperate attempts are being made to show the Telangana government in poor light. A few media houses are also publishing false reports about power tariffs and RTC fare hikes. I appeal to the public not to go by such reports,” he said.
