Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Friday lashed out at the BJP Telangana leaders for spreading false propaganda against the TRS government over paddy procurement. He termed the statements made by the BJP Telangana leaders over paddy procurement as irresponsible and strongly objected to the remarks that the State government was only playing the role of a middleman in paddy procurement.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan here, Niranjan Reddy said with an eye on the Huzurabad bypolls, the BJP leaders were trying to spread false rumours on the social media stating that the State government was planning to stop Rythu Bandhu scheme to farmers cultivating paddy in Yasangi season. He made it clear that as long as Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was in power, the Rythu Bandhu scheme will be provided to all farm land owners. He also lodged a complaint with DGP M Mahender Reddy seeking action against those who were spreading the false propaganda against Rythu Bandhu scheme and trying to malign the State government.

He said that the BJP leaders did not dare to take up his challenge and failed to convince the Centre to procure entire paddy crop, prompting them to give up their fake deeksha.

“We strongly object to their remark that the State government was a middleman in paddy procurement. Does that mean Prime Minister Narendra Modi played similar middleman role during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for three terms?” he questioned.

As per Article 246, the Union government has the responsibility of announcing Minimum Support Price (MSP) for various crops and also purchase them. The Minister alleged that the Centre was purchasing paddy from Punjab, but not from Telangana, terming it as discrimination towards the Southern States of the country. He advised the Centre either to procure the crops or openly admit their inability to purchase them.

He slammed the BJP leaders for violating the Model Code of Conduct during Huzurabad bypolls and stated that the BJP was resorting to silly politics for votes. Despite the Election Commission of India’s orders against addressing press meets or interviews in the poll-bound Huzurabad 72 hours before the polling, BJP candidate Eatala Rajender tried to conduct a press conference. “The BJP must stop creating unnecessary issues. How is the State government responsible, if the police foil their plans to hold a press conference against the EC guidelines. Did not we cooperate when police conducted search at the residence of our MP Capt Lakshmikantha Rao?,” he questioned.

Responding to a question over his statements against YSR Telangana Party president YS Sharmila, Niranjan Reddy made it clear that his remarks were not intended to hurt anyone and offered to apologise. However, he questioned if Sharmila justified her derogatory statements against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao who was a contemporary to her father and a fatherly-figure to people of Telangana State.
Government Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar and TRS general secretary M Sreenivas Reddy also were present.
