No strong evidence against celebrities in drugs case: Excise Dept
The charge-sheet says that the statement of Kelvin, the prime accused, alone was not sufficient enough to consider celebrities as offenders and more importantly, no drugs were found with them

Hyderabad: The Excise department has said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the 2017 drugs and money-laundering case had examined all the evidences and analysed them thoroughly but there was no strong evidence against any celebrities.

The department, in its charge-sheet, reportedly said the accusations made by Kelvin, the prime accused in the drugs case, were untruthful and his statements appear to have been made to misguide the investigating officials.

In his statement, Kelvin had claimed that he sold drugs to film actors, students, software employees and hotel managements. Based on his statement, the SIT issued notices to some persons and questioned them. The statements made by the prime accused alone cannot be considered as strong evidence, the charge-sheet said, adding that his statement alone was not sufficient enough to consider celebrities as offenders. More importantly, no drugs were found with celebrities or suspects, they said.

They pointed out that film director Puri Jagannath and actor Tarun had voluntarily given their bio samples and the Forensic Science Laboratory had conducted tests. The samples tested negative, the officials explained in the charge-sheet, adding that the department has not included the names of film fraternity members in the suspects and witnesses list.

They said Kelvin got addicted to drugs while he was pursuing education in Mangalore and began selling them to his friends in 2013. He used to get drugs from Goa, abroad and through dark web. He used to supply drugs after receiving orders through WhatsApp, email and from other sources. During investigation, he did not share addresses or other crucial details of buyers. There are, however, evidences against his friends Nischay and Ravi Kiran suggesting their involvement. During raids, Kelvin tried to escape through the kitchen, they added.
