Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the city traffic police were not being given any targets to penalise motorists for violations. “Target is to ensure safety of the motorist and not collection of money. The fines under MV Act were revised recently and due to this, there is an increase in the overall penalty amount collected this year compared to the previous year,” he clarified.
The traffic police were taking various initiatives to bring down the accident rate in the city and also the instances of drunk driving. The police were receiving suggestions from the public and depending upon the feasibility those were being studied and implemented.
In the coming year, more work will be done to ensure safety of the motorist and bring down the accident rate in coordination with the other government departments, he said.
