Mancherial: Normal life, in particular, farmers was affected by unseasonal rains and gales that lashed several parts of the district on Tuesday night.

In one of the worst tragic incidents in Mancherial district, four farmers were killed when walls of an old tin-roofed shed caved in on them when they were trying to avoid drenching of paddy produce from the rains. Six other farmers sustained injuries in the mishap. They were shifted to a hospital in Karimnagar. Strong gales were suspected to have caused the mishap.

Paddy produce was shifted to procurement centres and kept at platforms was damaged by rains, resulting in losses to farmers in Mandamarri, Nennal and Kannepalli mandals.

Farmers regretted that the rains shattered hopes of at least realising their investment if not profits. They urged the government to procide immediate relief by assessing damage of grains and standing maize and paddy crops.

Similarly, supply of power was disrupted when power lines snapped due to gales and uprooting of trees. People were forced to stay awake throughout the night.

Traffic came to a standstill after uprooted trees fell on the roads on Mancherial-Luxettipet, Mancherial-Chennur, Luxettipet- Jannaram routes causing inconvenience to motorists.People requested the officials to take steps to restore power and to avoid traffic snarls.
