Hyderabad: Popular writer and Kendra Sahitya Akademi awardee Vasala Narsaiah passed away in Karimnagar on Sunday. He was 80. Narasaiah was bedridden for the past couple of years due to prolonged illness and breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday.
Born on January 26, 1942 at Chavulamaddi village in erstwhile Karimnagar district, Narasaiah won the prestigious Bal Sahitya Puraskar for the year 2017. The Kendra Sahitya Akademi announced the award recognising his contribution to children’s literature in Telugu. Narasaiah won several awards including the State Bala Sahitya Puraskar in 2009 constituted by Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University.

He was drawn to literature at a younger age and started his literary work at the age of 12. Besides continuing his literary journey, Narasaiah also felicitated children’s authors through ‘Vasala Narasaiah Bala Sahiti Puraskar’ since 2009, in a bid to encourage more writers to take up children’s literature. He retired as postal superintendent in 2002.
