Hyderabad: In a rare occurrence at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) said it was honoured to facilitate a Bus and Building Intervention Exercise by the 28 Special Composite Group of the National Security Guard (NSG) in the last week of July, which was disclosed much later.
This high-level counter-terrorism drill was conducted as part of the NSG’s nationwide preparedness strategy to enhance response capabilities at sensitive public venues. The exercise was initiated following a formal request from NSG authorities via official correspondence, with permission and necessary coordination from the HCA. Advance reconnaissance was also successfully conducted in the third week of July.
The HCA extended the required support to the NSG team while ensuring all internal safety protocols and access conditions were met, in accordance with mutually agreed terms and conditions. The NSG commandos, under the leadership of Major S Rohit, Squadron Commander, executed simulated real-time response operations with precision.
The exercise witnessed active collaboration between NSG personnel, Telangana State Police, and on-ground HCA security staff. The drill included live tactical interventions, dog squad coordination, emergency entry simulations, perimeter control and breach management, and hostage rescue.
The HCA, in a statement on Sunday, commended the exemplary professionalism, discipline, and preparedness demonstrated by the National Security Guard. It said this collaboration not only reinforces public safety standards for large venues but also sets a precedent for future engagements in safeguarding critical infrastructure.
“We thank the NSG, State Police, and all associated personnel for their commitment to national security, and for choosing our venue for such an impactful and necessary exercise. HCA feels proud of the brave NSG commandos and is honoured to have hosted this important national security exercise at our premises,” it said.
