Odisha reports 749 new COVID-19 cases, 16 more deaths

Khurda recorded the maximum number of new cases at 88, followed by Mayurbhanj at 78 and Sundargarh at 55.

Bhubaneswar: At least 749 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha, taking the tally to 3,09,408 on Monday, while 16 fresh fatalities pushed the toll in the state to 1,543, a health department official said.

Of the 749 cases, 437 were reported from quarantine centres, and the remaining detected during contact tracing.


Khurda recorded the maximum number of new cases at 88, followed by Mayurbhanj at 78 and Sundargarh at 55.

Taking to Twitter, the health department said, “Regret to inform the demise of Sixteen #COVID19 positive patients while under treatment in hospitals.”

Five deaths were registered in Sundergarh, followed by three in Bargarh and two in Jharsuguda. One each succumbed to the infection in Deogarh, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Sambalpur.

Odisha currently has 9,950 active cases, while as many as 2,97,862 patients have recovered from the infection. The positivity rate in the state stands at 5.84 per cent.

Fifty-three other COVID-19 patients have died in the state due to comorbidities, according to the official.

Over 52.94 lakh sample tests have been conducted in the state, including 35,051 on Sunday, the official added.
